Krishimanthra : Agriculture Lesson 1 - Seed Collection

Vegetable Seed collection: Quality seed collection is one of the most important aspects of agriculture. To do this, buy the seeds we need only from reputable companies or from reputable farmers.
Often the failure of any crop is due to mistakes made in seed selection.
There are two main types of vegetable seeds available in the market. Local Variety seeds (heirloom seeds) and hybrid seeds. First, a farmer needs to know the difference between these two seeds.

Everyone knows about indigenous seeds. But when we get a cover, we buy it regardless of its quality or maturity. Farmers often make the mistake of buying local variety seeds (heirloom seeds) from irresponsible shops. They also receive mature seeds. Therefore, the germination capacity of those seeds is almost lost. Farmers who sow these seeds lose one year's labor. So they fall into a great loss and become very frustrated. The main reason why most farmers choose indigenous seeds is to aim for the next crop.
Moreover, in the unique agricultural culture of Kerala, the local seeds were preserved and cultivated. But with the advent of agricultural research institutes, new varieties of seeds, highly productive hybrid seeds were developed and a great change took place in the field of agriculture.

Most growers have some misconceptions about hybrid seeds. Hybrid seeds, which are seeds that are produced by intermittent pollination from two plants of the same species, have the advantage of being more productive than native seeds, but the only drawback is that it cannot later take seeds from the germinating plant. It is often mistaken for a genetically modified seed. If we buy a hybrid seed from the market, we can be sure that it has an accurate manufacturing date and expiry date. But it is not recorded in many local variety seeds. Whatever the seed, the date recorded on it should be given great importance.

But only when a seed germinates and turns into a plant will we get the expected yield. My detailed knowledge of how to plant seeds and what to look out for will continue.
